Our policy work is led by a team of policy spokespeople and deputy spokespeople, all of whom are senior members of Solace. Headed up by our President, they cover a range of issues across local public services policy. Key areas of focus for the President and spokespeople include representing the sector in conversations with government officials, as well as the media; sharing best practice across the sector; forming effective partnerships with relevant organisations; and, contributing to proactive policy thinking and development. The Head of Policy sits at the heart of Solace's analysis, innovation and thought-leadership function. It's a high-profile, visible and far-reaching role, reporting to the Managing Director, and we believe it's one of the most significant and influential positions in the sector. We're looking for candidates with the full range of skills: research, writing, presenting, advocacy, management of a small expert team, and an in-depth knowledge of local government. Key issues in your in-tray will include social care, Brexit, housing, Universal Credit and local goverment finance.
Strong applicants will also have a similar insight into associated sectors such as health, emergency services, or education, and should be adept at managing constructive two-way relationships with senior stakeholders. A great contact book will always be an advantage, and we want to see evidence that you are a motivated, self-starting professional, ready to take on an important leadership position in a high-performing organisation.
